Perhaps you’ve noticed one in your rearview mirror: a brightly blue and red colored vehicle announcing “Red Bull: It gives you wings.” Or, if you happen to be driving on a racetrack, cars might be shouting “Dupont” or “Budweiser” as they scream past. These loud and stylistic vehicles are not the result of elaborate paint jobs. They are all part of a popular trend, which MM3 Design is now proud to offer as a service: car wraps.
Larry Hall’s insurance business was not a stranger to the car wrap game having previously had a Smart Car with flat red and white StateFarm branding; however, Larry wanted to upgrade his overall style by changing designs and cars. MM3 web and graphic designer Josefa Portugal created an innovative and contemporary version of Larry’s corporate identity to match the sleek and sporty Honda Fit which would carry his message.
“It was kinda cool that we were able to add [so much] texture and gradients to the new design,” Josefa said. “We implemented new cut-out shapes and added subtle gradients that utilized the StateFarm branding and added some fun to the car wrap.”
After Josefa completed the concept, MM3’s print team received her design and the car’s specs to create the wrap’s appliqué pieces. Soon after, the print team would apply the pieces using squeegee-type tools to ensure no bubbles appear on the car. They also cut the design around the car’s doors and handles and were able to smooth the wrap using minimal heat application.
“The whole process took about 10 hours to install,” Josefa said. “I was surprised how much it looks like a paint job. And when you feel it [the car] feels smooth, just like paint.”
As you can see from the photos, the finished product appears as though Larry Hall spent an arm and a leg having his car repainted for his business needs, when actually he just ordered amazing, yet affordable marketing to go from MM3 Design.
